The Water Within Me
A single tree takes a lifetime of consistency to grow, to sprout new growth.
A century for a forest to pridefully make its strong claim upon the land.
So you see
There is no forest within this soul.
There laid no soil to nourish my seeds.
The sun failed to fortify my being.
To make me stable.
To make me strong.
I was without this you see?
All that was there to help me grow was water.
Water like the ocean that is never the same.
Water like the rivers that constantly run away.
Water like the rain that gives life to us all.
Water like the placid lakes that bring forth peace.
So you see
My soul is too old to be like the tree and the soil.
It craves the familiar ancient presence of the ocean, the steady streams, the still lakes the serene power.
There is no forest within me
I had not the time
I had not the soil and sun
I had not all of these things to make me tall and sturdy
I had only water
It is the water I now choose
It is water that is within me
