Finding the Treasures In Every Day Life
I encourage you to read this and then try it for yourself. Feel free to let your senses run free and allow yourself the moment of stillness that your soul needs. I now welcome you into my time of deep reflection and my time to luxuriate in my life's small moments.
First, I remind myself to slow down, to stop and pay close attention to this moment, right now. Quickly I close my eyes to take in some deep and slow breaths to ground me to this occasion. Naturally my sense of smell takes over and I notice the natural woody scent of paper and the particular smell of the house that is filled with fresh cut garlic and meat baking in the pan. I acknowledge how nice and clean my hair smells from my recent shower and the fragrance of my lotion. I sniff out the beloved smell of strong fresh coffee waiting on me.
I open my eyes and observe my surroundings as if it were the first time. Only then do I notice the tiny water droplets holding onto the side of my cup of water. I revel in the morning sunlight as it cascades into the room from the large windows. I treasure the way the light reflects off of the bright blue flower pot and off of the clean glass cabinets. Every color is appreciated from the vibrant purple flowers to the bright happy birthday balloon hovering over the table. I glance down at my hands and take in the unique tone of my skin. I adore the small brown freckles randomly placed about on my arms.
I delight now in the way my pen feels under my finger tips. How soft my night gown is on my skin. I cherish how cozy my fluffy socks are on my feet. I revere my slight lower back pain from playing some intense tennis the day before. I enjoy the tingling sensation of my nails grazing over my arms.
I smile when I hear William's soothing voice from the kitchen. I focus in on the tinkling of pots and pans that comes with cooking. I tune in to the water trickling down from the faucet and into the sink. I become aware to the clinking of silverware meeting a bowl. To cabinets shutting, to the purposeful foot steps making the floor creak beneath. I relish as I hear the soft meows coming from other rooms in the house and giggle as William meows in response.
Now, for a minute or two I will savor this small yet profound moment in my life and carry it with me throughout the day to remind me of how beautiful life is in every moment.
Treasures are to be found but only to those who search for them.
Thank you for joining me on this small search for the treasure in my every day life.
